Role description

The Engineering Manager is a senior role responsible for the safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of all customer-facing engineering activities across the LPG business on the island of Ireland. The role has accountability for regulatory compliance, customer installations, service and maintenance operations, technical governance, and people leadership, while managing both operational (OPEX) and capital (CAPEX) budgets. This position ensures the company meets all statutory obligations while delivering a high-quality, safe, and commercially effective engineering service to customers. Key Responsibilities Regulatory Compliance & Safety Act as the company's senior authority for customer-side LPG engineering compliance in Ireland Ensure full compliance with all relevant legislation and standards Irish Gas Safety legislation HSA/CRU requirements IS 813, IS 820, IS 3216, EN standards and applicable EU directives Maintain robust safety management systems, audits, and inspections Lead regulatory audits and act as primary liaison with regulatory bodies Ensure contractor and third-party compliance with company and legal standards Customer Engineering Operations Lead and oversee: LPG tank installations (bulk and cylinder where applicable) Customer site upgrades, removals, and modifications Planned and reactive service & maintenance activities Ensure installations and service works are delivered safely, on time and to agreed cost and quality standards Develop and improve operational processes to enhance efficiency and customer experience Technical Authority & Governance Serve as technical escalation point for customer engineering issues Approve engineering designs, specifications, and non-standard installations Own and maintain engineering policies, procedures, and technical standards Provide technical input to Sales, Operations, and Commercial teams People Leadership & Capability Development Lead and develop a the engineering team. Set clear objectives, performance standards, and development plans Build a strong safety culture and accountability at all levels Manage contractor performance, capability, and compliance Drive succession planning and skills development across the function Financial & Budget Management Ownership of Customer Engineering OPEX and CAPEX budgets Develop and manage annual budgets aligned with business strategy Control costs while maintaining safety, compliance, and service standards Deliver productivity improvements and cost efficiencies where appropriate Stakeholder Management Work closely with: Commercial and Sales teams, Operations and Supply, HSE and Quality functions, External regulators and inspectors and contractors and engineering partners Support customer escalations where engineering leadership is required Ideal Candidate Profile: The ideal candidate will be a technically accomplished leader with experience in the LPG, gas, utilities, or a similarly regulated engineering environment. They will have a proven track record of leading and developing field-based teams, operating as a trusted technical authority, and making sound, risk-informed decisions. With strong commercial and financial acumen, the candidate will be confident managing both OPEX and CAPEX budgets while driving operational performance and value. Experience within the Irish LPG sector and managing large contractor networks is highly desirable. A degree in Engineering or an equivalent technical discipline is essential.
